Indian Tech Firm to Invest 2.9 Billion RMB in Silicon Carbide Semiconductor Plant
On December 23, media outlets such as The Economic Times reported that Silectric Semiconductor, a subsidiary of Zoho Corporation, will establish Karnataka's first semiconductor manufacturing plant in India, dedicated to integrated production of silicon carbide.
According to The Economic Times, Chief Minister (CM) Siddaramaiah stated that the project will be located near Mysuru, within the Kochanahalli Electronics Manufacturing Cluster (EMC), covering an area of 40 acres. The facility will involve an investment of ₹34.26 billion (approximately 2.9 billion RMB) and aims to establish an end-to-end silicon carbide production line. This includes the manufacturing of ingots, wafers, metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistors (MOSFETs), and modules.
Siddaramaiah also highlighted that Karnataka has been actively attracting companies by offering incentives and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to encourage them to set up operations in the state. Of the 234 acres allocated for the establishment of the EMC and semiconductor sector near Kadakola, Mysuru, Silectric's project in the Kochanahalli Electronics Manufacturing Cluster marks a significant milestone for the state. Additionally, local authorities are reportedly formulating a new policy for Electronic System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) to further drive the growth of this industry.
