KYOCERA Invests 60 Million Euros in Building a Medical Implant Fine Ceramics Factory
Recently, KYOCERA held a groundbreaking ceremony for its fine ceramics factory for medical implants, located in Waiblingen, near Stuttgart, Germany. This facility will specialize in manufacturing high-quality ceramic heads used in hip prostheses and other implant applications. The project is expected to be completed by September next year.
Groundbreaking Ceremony
According to public project information, KYOCERA will invest over 60 million euros, with the project being developed in two phases under KYOCERA Fineceramics Medical GmbH. “A state-of-the-art factory is being constructed in Waiblingen, where production will be highly automated. The building is designed to meet, or even exceed, the latest stringent regulations on carbon-neutral manufacturing, ESG standardization, and DGNB and/or LEED certifications. This provides a perfect foundation for the company’s success. Here, we will meet the growing demand for medical ceramic solutions,” explained Dr. Carsten Rußner, President of KYOCERA Fineceramics Medical GmbH and KYOCERA Fineceramics Europe GmbH.

The total investment for the first phase of construction amounts to 30 million euros, followed by a second phase, with investments ranging between 20 and 30 million euros. The first batch of products from this facility is expected to be delivered in the first quarter of 2026. The management team, consisting of Dr. Fabian Preuss and Dr. Uwe Kemmer, is confident that this investment will pay off:
“After decades of successful sales of KYOCERA’s medical technology products in Japan, the new factory will now establish our presence in Europe’s medical sector, enabling us to provide sustainable solutions for ceramic medical applications.”
It is also worth mentioning that in mid-September, Germany’s CeramTec reached a construction milestone for its medical ceramics facility in Marktredwitz, just a year after breaking ground. This facility is scheduled for completion and operation in 2026. Both ceramic implant projects, located in Germany, reflect the confidence that leading advanced ceramics companies have in this market.
